| Bachna Ae Haseeno: Actress in their late 20s being considered old upsets Bipasha Basu Posted: 10 May 2010 12:51 AM PDT To regular Hindi movie goers, Bipasha Basu does not need any introduction. This twenty nine year old Bengali beauty is one of the most attractive women in Bollywood. Often referred as the sexiest woman in Asia, Bipasha Basu has been in the industry for seven years. What annoys her about Bollywood is that it is a male dominated industry. Male actors have lots of advantages over their female counter parts. Not only the top male actors make more money than female actresses but their career life is longer than female actresses. An actress in her late 20s considered old according to movie makers. This has miffed the actress very much who is the current Bollywood sex symbol. Responding to a question regarding her pair up with Ranbir Kapoor, who is younger than her, she said that it was very unfortunate that when an older male actor is paired up with a young actress, people do not bother about it, but when an older actress is paired up with a young actor, it is not taken positively.
Before coming to acting, Bipasha Basu was a super model. In Bollywood, she has a more glamorous image. Though she did few deglamorized characters but she found success in glamour roles. In Bachna Ae Haseeno , Bipasha Basu was asked to do a seduction scene with Ranbir Kapoor which she was not told when she signed the movie. When director Siddharth Anand told her about the scene, she did not agree to do it because she though it was unnecessary. Though Siddharth was upset in the beginning, he became tight lipped about the whole thing. Aside from Ranbir Kapoor, Bipasha Basu is appearing in Freeze with Neil Nitin Mukesh, who is also younger than her. |
| Kanye West’s antics on Taylor Smith at VMA 2009 Posted: 09 May 2010 06:40 PM PDT Kanye West displayed his antics again; this time the show is VMA 2009, and the victim – Taylor Swift. Kanye West ruinedTaylor Swift's MTV VMA victory for best female video as he abruptly interrupted her acceptance speech, and rudely said, "Taylor, I'm really happy for you. I'll let you finish, but Beyonce had one of the best videos of all time! One of the best videos of all time!" Taylor who has the single most popular album after MJ this year, won for her track You Belong With Me ousting Beyonce's Single Ladies. Visibly shaken Taylor couldn't even end her speech after Kanye made that unruly entry and unreasonably rude outburst. However, the 19-year-old VMA winner got a second chance to give her speech, thanks to an “incredibly classy” BeyoncĂ©, who gave up her stage time when she won Video of the Year to allow Swift her moment to shine, without any interruption. | Posted: 09 May 2010 12:35 PM PDT It is true that Bollywood today is a vibrating movie industry and growing at a rapid pace but even in today's Bollywood, I do not see any actress equal to Madhuri Dixit's talent and stature. She can be referred as the "female Amitabh Bachchan" of Bollywood. After she left Bollywood, there was no one to fill her shoes. In the industry, there are only three actresses who have the talent of Madhuri Dixit; Kajol, Rani Mukherjee and Preity Zinta.
The movie that really made me fall in love with Madhuri Dixit was Saajan. The movie is a triangle love story. Aman (Sanjay Dutt) and Akash Verma (Salman Khan) are child hood friends. Aman is physically challenged but he is a bright student and writes poem under the pen name Sagar. His poems become very popular. Akash Verma, on the contrary, is a womanizer. Pooja Saxena (Madhuri Dixit) is a small town girl and a big fan of Sagar’s poems. She actually falls in love with Sagar. She wants to meet him. Then Aman comes to Pooja's town for business purpose and he sees Pooja. Aman falls in love with Pooja but hesitates to reveal his feelings fearing that Pooja might reject him as he is not physically fit.
In the mean time, Akash joins Aman and on his first day in the town, he bumps into Pooja and falls in love with her. When he tells Aman about his love, Aman decides to sacrifice his love for friendship. Then oneday, Akash comes to know that Aman is Sagar, whom Pooja actually loves. He then feels bad about the whole thing and breaks up with Pooja. Initially, Pooja was upset but Akash unites Pooja and Aman at the end.
It is movies like Saajan that makes Bollywood the best in the world. The entire cast was great and Madhuri Dixit was simply stunning. Another big advantage of Saajan was its music. Composed by famous duo, Nadeem-Shravan, all the songs of the album were great. My most favorite track was "Mera Dil Bhi Kitna Pagal Hai."

| Review of The Happy Children of the Third World of Nasrul Eam Posted: 09 May 2010 06:28 AM PDT Yesterday (3 October 2008), I came across an ebook titled "The Happy Children of the Third World" written by Nasrul Eam, a passionate photographer, designer and writer from Bangladesh. The book I have got to read is the first of the three volumes that solely focuses on the Bangladeshi children from the streets to the remote villages and coastal areas.
The book contains lots of pictures of smiling and beaming faces of the children in their own world with some short but valuable information given in the caption with each and every pictures. You may not find loads of information or statistics about Bangladeshi children in the book, but the glittering pictures along with short descriptions will surely give you an insight rare view of the children of a third world country like Bangladesh where children are born with poverty and hunger. But what I like most about the book is that the writer tries to find out something different out of ordinary things. For example, we all know that the children of the third world countries are struck by poverty, hunger and deprived of a minimal living standard. However, the writer in this book tries to reveal a completely different aspect of the Bangladeshi children other than their poverty-struck life. That is their innocence and simplicity that keeps them happy, smiling and gives mental strength to cope up with a life that is full of hunger, poverty as well as natural calamities. There are some other things about the book that I want to share with you. First of all, the snap shots of Nasrul Eam will lead you to make a comparison between the natural beauty and the eternal happiness and innocence of the children who bind no bound to share their happiness with the nature. Monsoon is the most-awaited season for the farmers of Bangladesh because during monsoon flood occurs and thus their harvest lands get prepared for harvesting for the next season. Having said that, monsoon season creates many problems too as flood washes away their houses, valuable things, and even sometimes takes away lives too. No doubt, children are most vulnerable during flood time, but the book will show you how the children delightfully embrace monsoon and I am sure their gleaming eyes and joyful faces will take to your heart.
Another important aspect of the book is that the book also provides with significant information about the nature of Bangladesh. You will get to know about the rivers of Bangladesh, the country known as land of river. The book will also give you information about the seasons of Bangladesh and the natural changes it goes through throughout the year. The writer will also take you to the medieval age of this land to let you know about great Mughal Emperor Akbar who ascended the throne at the tender age of 13, but he impressed all with his generosity and humanistic view of ruling such a vast land of areas. That is the beauty, the writer intentionally tries to unearth from these children. Moreover, you will also get to know about Bay of Bengal and its splendid seashore that is largest in the world. So, you will find lots of information within few lines. The writer might have given the information in order to show a stronger relationship between nature and the children, and the heritage that people of this land have, but these information alone can make you fell interested about the book. Harry Potter and Mickey Mouse may not reach to these poverty-hit children, but you will get to know from this book that these children also have their own playing stuffs: clay, sand, water, tress and other things from the nature. Nature and children are shown very closely in the book and they do seem no less happy than the children who have access to Harry Potter and Mickey Mouse. In the book, the writer talks about the children of village, urban (children in the slums) as well as coastal areas. However, all of them are driven by poverty and many of they even can not get to eat three times a day. Still, you can see the unique joy in their faces while going through the pictures given in the book. They are playing in the seashore, laughing, flying kite, bathing in the sea (in coastal areas) without caring anything else. In the book, you will be introduced with their own world where they know how to turn sufferings into happiness. The writer indicates one very important issue of rising water level in the sea that might engulf 50 percent of the land in the near future if water level continues to rise at the same rate. Still, you will see no worry in the face of the children of the coastal areas and they are not even concerned about what a harsh future is waiting for them. If you carefully look at the pictures of the children, you must feel their careless mindset and a heavenly innocence in their eyes. Even in city slums, poor people are leading a life that perhaps does not fall under any category of standard, but the ever-smiling faces of the slum children would make you bewildered. You all are somewhat know about comic book where the images of cartoon characters along with few lines in the caption lead you to the fantasy of the cartoon world. The book titled "The Happy Children of the Third World" can be compared with the comic book, but the only difference is that Nasrul Eam's book would lead you to a unique world of Bangladeshi children who are happy with what they have got and even do not aware of what they have not got. At last, I would like to say that Nasrul Eam's effort to draw a big picture of simplicity and innocence of the children of a third world country like Bangladesh is splendid and praise worthy.
