Singapore’s Battlestar Galactica roller coaster to reopen

Posted: 02 Feb 2011 11:26 AM PST

After a year long wait, the scary and exciting Singapore Battlestar Galactica roller coaster will open again at the Universal Studios from 21st February. The Battlestar Galactica was shut down last year in March due to some technical problems.

The announcement of its reopening was made on Wednesday by the Resorts World Sentosa (RWS), who have also acquired the license to run the roller coaster. Till now, RWS had remained silent about the reopening of the ride, but the news came as a pleasant surprise, especially for those in the tourism industry.

When the theme park was opened in the month of March 2010, one of the seats of the coaster had fallen during a test ride. The seat had fallen due to the stress and vibrations of the coaster, which had developed cracks on the support system of the seat.

Battlestar Galactica is a unique roller coaster, which is different from the regular coasters that have a traditional chain lifts. The Battlestar launches from the station with high speed, thanks to the Linear Synchronous Motors.
