Narayan Surve or Narayan Gangaram Surve Marathi poet died today on August 16th, 2010 due to old age and after a brief illness. Narayan Gangaram Surve born on October 15, 1926 who was a Marathi poet from Maharashtra, India Orphaned or abandoned soon after birth, he grew up in the streets of Mumbai, sleeping on the pavement and earning a meager livelihood by doing odd jobs. He taught himself to read and write, and in 1966 published his first book of poems Majhe Vidyapeeth (My University). His poems described the world of urban population that lived in a metro like Mumbai, who did whatsoever work they could lay their hands on to eke out a living.

Surve actively worked in the workers’ union movement in Mumbai and supported himself as a schoolteacher. In the 1970s, Narayan Surve was often championed in India as well as in the Soviet Union and some Eastern bloc countries as a proletarian poet.

Narayan Surve received for his poetry Golden Lotus Award, and Kabir Sammanin 1999 from the state government of Madhya Pradesh. He was a Convener of the Marathi Advisory Board of Sahitya Akademi. Narayan Surve presided over Marathi Sahitya Sammelan at Parbhani in 1995. On the Pavemenu of Life ( 1973 ) is a compilation of English translations of Surve’s early poems. Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan said: "We have lost a legendary poet and thinker who represented the commonest of the common man."

Deputy Chief Minister Chhagan Bhujbal said: “We have lost a great poet and social activist who became the voice of the depressed classes through his poetry.”  Shiv Sena MP Bharat Kumar Raut hailed Surve as a “people’s poet”. “Surve gave words to the pain of people who had no voice,” Raut said.  Union Power Minister Sushilkumar Shinde praised Surve’s “unique” style of poetry. “Through his poems he vociferously proclaimed social revolution. He had created a unique style of writing poems, using colloquial language of workers in a prose-like style,” he said.

Bangalore One – B1 Project is the concept of a ‘One-Stop-Shop’ facility provided by The Government of Karnataka (GoK) of its integrated services to the citizens deploying the tools of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) so as to enhance Speed, Convenience, Certainty and Accountability in providing such services. Accordingly, GoK decided to implement an e-Governance project called the Bangalore One or B1 Project on the lines of similar projects implemented elsewhere in India.

Starting from April 2, 2005 Bangalore citizens benefit from the 14 hi-tech citizen service centres. From BCC, BESCOM, BSNL, BWSSB, police, RTO, passport, stams and registration – all these services will be provided under one roof.

By registering with Bangalore One portal, transactions can be made from home. The government to citizen [G2C] and government to business [G2B] services will be implementd by the State Government in association with Hyderabad based National Institute of Smart Governance [NISG].

The following are the set of Objectives of B1 Project:

a. To enhance the accountability, transparency and responsiveness to citizen’s needs.

b. To provide cost-effective methods of service provision to the departments and agencies

c. To provide efficient and real-time MIS and EIS to the departments.

d. To ensure speed and certainty of providing the services through enforcement of a Service Level Agreement with the selected Partner.

e. To enable the government departments and agencies to focus on their core functions and responsibilities by freeing them from the routine operations like collection of revenues and accounting, issuing of certificates etc, and thereby enhance the overall productivity of the administrative machinery.

• BWSSB & BESCOM: Bill payment, grievance redressal, application for new connections and statement of accounts.
• BCC: Property tax payment, issue of Khata certificate and extract, issue of copies of birth and death certificates and grievance redressal.
• RTO: Learner’s license renewal, road tax payment, issue of B-extract for vehicles and payments against challan.
• Stamps and Registration: Providing market value assistance.
• Passport: Sale of application forms and new passport application registration.
• CTO: Collection of KST/CST and entry tax.

CWG Theme Song has been launched today on August 16, 2010 by AR Rahman. Music maestro A R Rahman CWG theme song for Commonwealth Games 2010 here after the Group of Minister (GoM) on the Games approved the tune yesturday on Independence Day 2010. This CWG Theme Song was dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi. The Oscar winner’s song will be sung in the Commonwealth Games opening ceremony in October. The Group of Ministers (GoM) on the Commonwealth Games has finalised Oscar winner AR Rahman’ s theme song for the mega event and it will be made public in 10 days by giving some final touches to CWG Theme Song 2010.

AR Rahman said that CWG Theme Song will be energytic and mentioned that it is not Shakira’s Waka Waka type, the official song of FIFA World Cup 2010. The theme song will be the last song of the opening ceremony.

The approval for the tune came hours after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s  appeal on his Independence Day to treat the Games as a national festival. The successful organization of Commonwealth Games would be another signal to the world that India was equipped to face any challenges, the Prime Minister said.

Cairn Energy Plc proposed part sale in Cairn India: Vedanta to buy majority stake in Cairn India for up to $9.6 bln. Vedanta said the deal will give it a controlling stake in a company that has the potential to generate around a quarter of India’s oil and gas production. “The proposed acquisition significantly enhances Vedanta’s position as a natural resources champion in India,” said Vedanta Chairman Anil Agarwal. Vedanta, headed by the mining billionaire Anil Agarwal and headquartered in London, said it would pay 405 rupees, or $8.66, per share of Cairn India, a premium of about 32 percent over recent share prices. The company will buy between 21 and 40 percent of Cairn India, while collaborating with the Indian iron ore producer Sesa Goa to make a tender offer for another 20 percent of Cairn diluted shares.

• Cairn to sell a maximum of 51 per cent of Cairn India to Vedanta
• Consideration of up to US $8,480m (INR 396,561m), based on US $8.66 (INR 405) per Cairn India share*

Vedanta said it was financing the deal with debt and internal cash reserves, and intended to build up an "Indian natural resources champion" using the company that produces 125,000 barrels of crude per day from the Rajasthan field, and which sits on an estimated 6.5 billion barrels of oil and gas.

"Cairn India represents a unique oil and gas exploration and production platform with the second-largest reserves in India among private sector oil companies, a proven management team, and low-cost production," Vedanta said.

India currently needs to import two-thirds of the oil it consumes to fuel its dramatic economic growth, with that share expected to increase in coming years — a trend Vedanta hopes to curb.

Cairn, which now owns 62.4 percent of its Indian arm, said in a separate statement Monday that much of the cash would go to its shareholders, with the rest financing exploration in Greenland, where it has a major presence. The company, based in Scotland, will keep a minority stake in Cairn India of between 10 percent and 21 percent.

Cairn India, listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange, is one of the largest oil and gas companies in the country.

The deal is expected to close by the first quarter of next year at the latest. It has been cleared with regulators but awaits shareholder approval at both companies.
