Tata Nano's Sanand plant inaugurated today by Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, Ratan Tata (Tata Group Chairman). The Tata Nano's Sanand plant the world's cheapest car, the first set of small cars Nano, manufactured by Tata Motors at its new location in Sanand, near Ahmedabad in Gujarat, is all set to roll out today on Wednesday, June 2, 2010.

The Gujarat Chief Minister, Narendra Modi, and the Tata group Chairman, Ratan Tata, will flag off nine Nano cars heralding the beginning of the marketing of the products manufactured at Sanand where the plant was shifted, amidst controversies, from Singur in West Bengal, some 19 months ago.

The nine Nanos, claimed to be the world's cheapest four-wheeler, starting from Sanand would undertake a voyage of over 12,000 km passing through 40 cities across some 20 states in the East, South and the North.

Till the time the Sanand facility was ready, the company went ahead with limited production of Nano – touted as the world's cheapest car with a factory gate price of Rs. 1,00,000 (little over $ 2,000) – from Pantnagar in Himachal Pradesh.

Bookings for the car opened in April 2009 and deliveries began in July that year. It has so far delivered over 35,000 units. However, only the first 1,00,000 customers are assured of getting the car at an ex-factory price of Rs. 1,00,000.

The Sanand facility has the capacity to manufacture 2.5 lakh units annually, which can subsequently be increased to 5 lakh units per annum. Pilot commercial production of Nano at Sanand has already begun.

Kolkata Municipal Election Results West Bengal; KMC Results 2010: Mamata Banerjee has received the much awaited giant victory from Kolkata. Her TMC (Trinamool Congress) has swept the Bengal civic polls. She won 97 seats out of a total of 141. This is a profit of 55 seats from the Trinamool Congress in the Kolkata Municipal Corporation. Mamata Banerjee's victory led her party to demand that the state elections scheduled to be held next year to be brought forward. Saugata Ray, TMC leader stated "The Left front is already a defeated party. People have opted for the leadership of Mamata Banerjee. If they (Left) have any sense of self-respect, they should resign and pave the way for an election." Nilotpal Basu of the CPI(M) told that they do not demand for early elections.

Congress, which fought the polls without any seat adjustment with the Trinamool Congress, was way behind with a lead only in seven seats while others led in three. In another prestigious municipality Bidhannagar (Salt Lake) adjoining Kolkata, the Trinamool Congress was well ahead of the Left Front leading in 18 out of a total 25 wards. Left Front was leading in seven wards. At present, the Left Front is in power in both the Kolkata Municipal Corporation and the Bidhannagar municipalities.
