Karnataka Zilla Panchayat and Taluk Election Results

Bangalore, January 4th, 2011, Karnataka Zilla panchayath and Taluk elections results will be announced today.

Around 171 centers are arranged for counting the votes all around the Karnataka state.

Karnataka state election commission arranged live streaming of these results from their official website.

The elections were earlier conducted on 26th December and 31st December of 2010 and on January 1st of 2011.

Around 21 million citizens franchised their votes during these elections, which is coming to 65% of poll for these elections.

Ruling party BJP is expecting huge victory in the upcoming results as the Congress and Janatha Dal stood as strong competition.

Government authorities have taken necessary arrangements for the counting and results announcement at the various counting centers.

Currently, regional news channels such as TV 9 and Suvarna News are also providing live telecast from all the counting centers for the public.

Suchitra Mitra Passed Away

Suchitra Mitra, the legendary Rabindra Sangeet exponent died on Monday in her residence due to a cardiac arrest.

She was 86. Mitra was died around 1.30 p.m. today while she was having routine lunch as usual at her residence.

She was born in1924. Suchitra Mitra's six decades of tenure enthralled many music lovers with famous Tagore songs. Her records and CDs are still hot sellers today too.

Eminent singer-composer Pankaj Mullick was her first music teacher and then left to Shantiniketan with a scholarship.

She made her beginning with a first record in the year 1945. It is quite significant to remember that her singing skills were well sharpened through the experts such as Shantidev Ghosh and Shailajaranjan Mazumdhar.

Her rendition of Tagore songs such as "Gramchara oi Ranga Matir Path", "Krishnakai", Hridayer ekul okul du kul bheshe jai" is very popular for music lovers for many decades.

Landslide kills three children in central Philippine province

A landslide in central Philippine province killed three children on Sunday. According to a military official the landslide happened due to heavy rainfall in the region.

Many houses were damaged and buried in the village of Bulod-bulod in St Bernard Town in the landslide that occurred at 1:30 pm. The deceased includes a five year old Fatima Escairal and her one year old brother Rodel, whose bodies were found shortly after the landslide.

While three year old Jordan Laguipon's body was recovered on Monday morning. The parents of the brother and sister who died in the landslide, were injured and are currently being treated in the hospital.

According to sources, many other land slides were being reported, which had blocked roads and were later cleared by Department of Public Works and Highways. The administrator of the Office of the Civil Defense Benito Ramos said that, six more villages were affected due to the rains which were caused by the cold front.

Recycle bin invented by polytechnic students in Singapore

Polytechnic students of Singapore have created a recycle bin which can be made us for the household recycles. The Award winning recycle bin has proved to be the most convenient house hold gadget.

According to a survey conducted by the students with some 100 HDB households, majority of the people were of opinion that they would have recycled if they were given something convenient and space saving bin to recycle. The people were of opinion that the bin should be convenient enough to fit in the kitchen.

A 106 litre bin was then designed by a group of six students, which was visibly smaller than the ones found in public. The bin can fit in to the kitchens of most households.

The bin is expandable and has a in built compactor to fit in more trash. The students who designed the bin have received a Special Merit Award from the Green Wave Environmental Care Competition. The group is now in search of a manufacturer and has said that the bin should not cost more than S$20.

Special toys designed for special children

Graduates from the national University of Singapore, Wei Quan and Tan Liren have designed toys for children with special needs. Wei and Liren have designed  interactive and rehabilitative toys for the children with cerebral palsy.

Wei said that the toy "Feel The Beat" is specially designed for children with cerebral palsy. "The air pump is synchronised with the music, and so it actually pulsates with the music, with slow music, so when the thing actually pulsates and the kids actually listen to music through the ear phones, they can actually hold a shaker or some tambourine on their hand, they can actually learn how to play musical instruments,” Wei added.

While Tan Liren has designed "Rock On" a rocking chair for those patients with Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder. The rocking chair is equipped with letters and alphabets and other interactive functions.

Wei and Liren are hoping for their toys to catch attention in the market. According to sources, the toys are already in many special schools of Singapore for trials.
