Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations, New Delhi published its ICSE/ ISC Results 2010 and ICSE/ ISC Results 2010 Toppers names were to declare. The topper positions in both class X11 and X have also been attained by girls with the Class-X topper securing 98.80 per cent aggregate marks. The highest marks in Class-X have been secured by two girls with an aggregate of 98.7 per cent, says a report in NDTV. This year the pass rate of students in Class-XII was 97.11 per cent, up by 0.03 per cent from last year, the pass percentage is 98.31 in Class-X which is 0.26 per cent more than last year.

There were 55,760 candidates in Class-XII while 1,12,820 class Xth students took the exams held in March.

The pass percentage of girls in Class X was 98.77 per cent against 97.95 of boys.

Similarly, the pass rate of girls stands at 98.26 per cent in Class XII while it is 96.17 per cent in case of boys.

Western region recorded better results this year with 99.6 per cent students clearing the exam in Class X followed by students of southern region securing a pass rate of 99.44.

In Class-XII, however, the southern region recorded the best results with 98.72 per cent students getting through the test followed by eastern region where 97.69 per cent students went past the post.

In Delhi and NCR, girls outperformed boys in both the exams.

While 98.29 per cent girls cleared the class-X exam, 98.25 per cent boys crossed the hurdle. In Class-XII, the pass percentage of girls is 98.25 per cent which is substantially better the boys' 95.61 per cent.

Cyclonic Laila or Cyclonic Storm Laila is the first tropical cyclone of the 2010 North Indian Ocean cyclone season. It is currently intensifying and tracking toward southeastern India. The cyclone Laila has intensified in the Bay of Bengal about 700 km south-east of Chennai and coastal areas of north Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh are expected to witness heavy rains and very strong winds.

Andhra Pradesh braced itself for a severe cyclonic storm, christened Laila, as it threatened to bring "extremely heavy rainfall" of more than 25 cm at several places along the coastline today, accompanied by gales with initial speeds of 65-70 kmph.

A deep depression in the Bay of Bengal turned into a cyclonic storm that lay about 550 km south-southeast of Visakhapatnam on Tuesday evening. By all indications, it is likely to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm and cross the coast between Ongole and Visakhapatnam on May 20 morning.

It is feared that at the time of its landfall, the speed of gales would reach 115-125 kmph. The sea condition would be rough and tidal waves of abnormal height are expected. Already, warning signal 7 ( 'danger’ — severe weather from a cyclone) has been hoisted at all the sea ports, including Visakhapatnam and Nizampatnam and fishermen in all the nine coastal districts were warned against venturing into the sea.

As there were light rains and winds in coastal areas on Tuesday evening, Revenue officials commenced evacuation of people from low-lying areas in Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, East Godavari, West Godavari, Krishna, Guntur, Prakasam and Nellore.

Four persons were killed in Pyapili mandal of Kurnool district when the roof of a temporary shed collapsed due to gusty winds. Three fishermen went missing after venturing out from their village, Arkatpalem in Muthukur mandal of Nellore district and eight more from Subbampeta hamlet near Vuppada mandal near Kakinada and all efforts to trace them proved futile due to highly rough seas. Two persons were struck dead by lightning in Keesargutta on the Hyderabad city outskirts.

Ham radio network and satellite phones have been activated to maintain communication in case the conventional network fails.

Government has instructed to the Civil Supplies and APSRTC officials to keep adequate stocks of essential commodities and buses for transportation of people respectively.

The South Central Railway has been asked to operate trains only after satisfying itself that the railway track did not suffer damage.
