Singapore should refrain from making insensitive remarks about its neighbours and instead concentrate on further strengthening its ties with them, said Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badwai, ex- Prime Minister of Malaysia.

He also said that the diplomats from the island nation should take into consideration the sensitivities of Malaysia while speaking of their neighbors.

"Instead of making statements that could harm the relationship of the two countries, Singapore should try to ensure that the close association continues to grow," said Badwai.

The former PM made these statements in the wake of the comments of leaders and senior officials of the Singapore Foreign Ministry, as seen on the tapes released by WikiLeaks, which were widely reported in the media.

Malaysia's Foreign Minister Dato’ Seri Anifah Aman has already asked Singapore High Commissioner in Malaysia, T Jasudasen, to meet him in relation to the disturbing media coverage of the cables leaked by WikiLeaks.
